Using Google Ad Grants to Give Montana Nonprofits an Edge on Digital Success

The Google Ad Grants program is a fantastic initiative by Google to help nonprofit organizations increase their visibility on the Google Search Network. If you've ever wondered how some organizations appear at the top of Google search results, there's a chance they're leveraging this program.

At Edge, we work to partner with our clients and community so that consumers can easily find what they need, while businesses and nonprofits can make themselves found in the most relevant and cost effective manner.

Recently, we have helped a few of our nonprofit partners secure Google Ad Grants worth up to $10,000 a month. Yes, a grant for up to $120,000 a year! Now, this grant can only be used for GoogleAds, for the purpose of advertising, something we know that Montana nonprofits and our community members can certainly benefit from.

It is a relatively simple process, and we at Edge are happy to hold your hand through the process of earning the Google Ads Grant.

If you need more assistance after you have been awarded the grant, please reach out to us - we can help you design, target, launch and refine your digital ad campaign strategy.

Edge’s Step-by-Step Google Ads Grant Activation Guide:

  1. Register and get started with Google for Nonprofits
  2. Be registered as a charitable organization
  3. Your organization must have a secure (HTTPS) website that screams your mission - do you need one built for you? Call Edge!
  4. Be patient. Well, not too patient, approvals generally take about 5 business days.
  5. Do not create a Google Ads account - once your nonprofit’s grant has been awarded and is approved, an AdGrants account will be created
  6. Not synced with Google for Nonprofits yet? Race over to their website to get in on the action.

*Yes, the Capital is just down the street from our office here in Helena, Montana. However, It is important to note - Government entities or organizations are not eligible. Nor are hospitals or health care organizations. Schools, universities and academic institutions are out too.

Ad Creation: Upon approval, nonprofits can start creating their ads. These ads will only appear in the search results. They won't be displayed on partner sites or in the display network. Also, these ads are text-based – which means they won’t contain images or videos.

Bid Limits: Google Ad Grants has a CPC (Cost Per Click) limit, which means there's a maximum amount that can be set for a keyword bid. This ensures fair usage and that one organization doesn't dominate the ad space for a particular keyword.

Keyword Selection: Nonprofits should choose their keywords wisely. Picking the right keywords ensures that the ads reach the most relevant audience. Remember, with the Google Ad Grant, you're competing against other organizations and businesses that might be bidding on the same or similar keywords.

Ongoing Management: Like any Google Ads campaign, organizations should monitor and manage their campaigns regularly. This ensures that the ads are effective, and the allocated budget is used efficiently.

Compliance with Policies: Google has policies in place to ensure that the program is used correctly. Nonprofits must follow these guidelines. For instance, organizations must log in and make some kind of adjustment to their account at least once every 30 days to remain active in the program.

The Google Ad Grants program is a powerful tool for Montana nonprofits to spread the word, increase donations, recruit volunteers, and further their mission. If you're a nonprofit, it's an opportunity you shouldn't miss. And even if you're just a supporter, knowing about this program can help you guide your favorite organizations towards a resource that could change their digital outreach game.
